I feel Central India is a bit
underestimated in many terms. However, it is rich in culture and all.
One such GEM (I feel so) of Central
India, Madhya Pradesh to be precise is Bagh print. These fabrics are
like super fabrics to me and to many other ladies of Bhopal. They are
ultra comfy.
These are cotton based fabrics which
are dyed in vegetables and has block printing over them. They come in
almost all colours. Bagh is availabel in suits, sarees, bed sheets,
cushion covers etc and among these too there are variety of fabrics
available like chanderi, silk, maheshwari etc.
Can't imagine any colour that I don't have |
Bagh print is so much adored by ladies
that there are exhibitions of Bagh collection every now and then in
our city. Though now Bagh is also available in crepe, tassar and
silk, cotton remains my personal favourite.
Bagh print, when worn, can be teamed up
with threaded jewelry, stones or a little bit of gold but heavy and
plastic jewelry doesn't gel with it.
The Good:
Dyed from vegetables
Extremely comfortable and light
Has good breadth
Suitable for all weathers :D
Can create anything from them, right
from a suit to anarkali, skirt or even pillow covers
The Bad:
Colours and blocks may get repetitive
if you purchase from the same vendor always
Colour may get faded away, actually
that too depends on the quality
If you ever come to M.P Don't forget to
buy Bagh print for you. I am sure you'll love it.
Even I have so many suits in bagh
print, light green, dark green, olive green (OMG I have a problem
here), yellow, pink, white, purple, blue. And I've tried my hand a
little bit at the designing front too.
Share if you too have done anything
creative with Bagh.
FYI: Bagh is actually a village in Dhar
district of M.P. Bagh was chosen as a suitable place for this craft
as the high copper content in the waters of Bagh River adds depth to
the color.
love the bagh...cant get enough of it.... good read go siya ;O)
